Fanning's Interview Tips
.
In todays' tight job market, job seekers can have the upper hand if they know what to do. David Cowen, president of the fastest growing provider of personnel consulting and recruiting services for information technology professionals and e-businesses, offers the following tips to job seekers in any industry:
.
It's not an interview; It's a presentation...sell yourself.
  • Research the company and it's products.
  • Identify the five main points you want to make during the interview.
  • Know your strengths and weaknesses.
  • Be able to describe your typical day and your two or three primary responsibilities.
  • Give three reasons why you want the position that you are interviewing for.
  • Give five reasons why they should hire you.
  • Do you know the salary range, benefits, and the reason why the position is available?
.
Give examples of how you:
  • Use good judgment.
  • Handle pressure and deadlines.
  • Handle diverse personalities and egos.
  • Solved a recent problem or difficult situation.
  • Reorganized, improved business process/procedures that saved time and or money.
.
Be Prepared to answer the following:
  • Describe your strengths and weaknesses.
  • Why are you leaving your current job (no negatives-stay positive)?
  • Describe what you like most/least about your current job and/or boss.
  • How would your boss describe you, your work, initiative, attitude, and follow-thru?
.
Questions you should ask:
  • What are the qualities it takes to be successful in the position I am applying for?
  • Can you tell me about the people I will be working with-what are they like?
  • When are you looking to make a hiring decision?
.
Helpful Hints
  • Don't talk negatively about your boss, employer, or job.
  • Be enthusiastic and inquisitive about the position you are applying for.
  • A firm handshake and good eye contact communicate confidence.
  • Be confident and relaxed.
  • Every company has its own dress code and culture. Think about what to wear. It's better to be over-dressed than under-dressed. Remember, you only have one chance to make a first impression.
  • Bring at least 2 clean copies of your resume.
  • Send thank-you notes to everyone you meet with.
.
Good Luck!
